AirAid Intake System Review

It's indisputable! Replacing stock intakes with quality, less restrictive versions, will result in increased fuel mileage and improved performance.

We decided to install the popular AirAid Intake System on our 2003 Dodge, Diesel, Project Truck. For this specific application AirAid claims we can expect to increase our horsepower rating by 11 (other Dyno Reports are available at AirAid.com). The retail price for this system is $321.99, but many retailers offer reasonable discounts. AirAid.com offers a complete list of retailers.

The kit includes a Premium High Flow Air Filter and the AIRAID Modular Intake Tube (M.I.T.). The MIT flows up to 400 cfm more air than the factory unit, and is constructed of cross-linked high-density polyethylene for strength and durability. A filter housing assembly that fits over the existing OE air filter box, and an insulation piece along with quality hardware are also included. Graphics, a Tech Assistance phone number and a mini catalog complete the kit.

In the case of a diesel you can potentially lower your EGT's. Diesel engines are not indestructible. Aside from running a diesel without oil, or filling the fuel tank with gasoline instead of diesel fuel, few things will damage or kill a diesel engine faster than excessive Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT).

Airaid's performance success story is really quite simpleÑthey use the latest dyno-proven techniques and innovative designs to improve upon intake system efficiency. The result is a greater efficiency level, which affects both horsepower output and fuel mileage. This intake also works very well in conjunction with performance computer modules; the modules will increase the amount of fuel going into the motor and therefore needs more air. The installation of this system is very easy and requires only very basic hand tools. Generally installation can be done in 20 minutes, and that is about all the time we spent installing our system.

The installation went exactly as planned, and required no special tools and no more then 20 minutes. The entire system, including the filter housing and insulation piece fit perfectly. This is very important because if the filter housing doesn't fit just right it can get loose and cause unnecessary problems. If the insulation piece does not fit snugly against the hood dirt and debris might make contact with the filter element, causing much shorter...more
